Movie of the Day – Three Amigos

It’s Cinco de Mayo and like many people I am wondering exactly why we are celebrating it and where is the cheapest place to get a Margarita. So I am going to keep today’s post short and sweet and pick a movie that encapsulates that what Mexico is all about. I am just joking about Three Amigos representing Mexico, but still the movie fucking hilarious. The fact that you have not one, not two, but three comedians at the top of their game in a movie that is full of amazing one-liners and top notch comedy.
The story is straightforward, a small Mexican town is terrorized the villain El Guapo. The village sends two women to seek help in a bigger village and happen across a film of three cowboys who save a small town. They are lead to believe that what they saw is real and send a message to The Three Amigos to assist them in their time of need. Next we see the actors being blacklisted from Hollywood movies and they receive the telegraph and think that they have a new gig that will get them paid. They ride off to the small Mexican village and inadvertently drive off several of El Guapo’s men. Thinking it was all an act, The Amigos celebrate until they finally meet El Guapo himself and find out that this isn’t a movie gig and that they are really up against a ruthless killer. The Amigos flee and El Guapo razes the town and rides off with the Amigo’s love interest. The Three Amigos come back and witness the damage they caused and the hardship of the people and now make a decision to finally become the heroes that they play in movies.
The movie is a solid comedy. Once you are done watching, you will find yourself making call backs to the movie and quoting line after line. The script is written so well and is just filled with comedy in every scene. The musical numbers are even hilarious and it is a fun movie to watch.
If you have never seen Three Amigos, you are missing out on a fantastic comedy with three of the best comedian/actors from the SNL of years gone by. Get yourself a copy and sit back, have a tequila and laugh your ass off.
