Movie of the Day – A Single Man

So there was a bit of a controversy upon the initial marketing of this movie.  While on the surface the trailer seems to be this showy love between to two people.  Collin Firth and Julianne Moore are seen cavorting around, engaged in the throes of passion, and seemingly a movie about the confusing aspects of love and life.  Well the movie only covers the last two parts of the previous sentence and it’s weird to see a movie and marketing of said movie, try to hid the fact that this is a movie about a man who is gay and is contemplating his actions and role in life after the demise of his long time lover.  It’s weird seeing this trailer and then being taken aback by the fact that they swept the gay undertones of the movie under the rug or back into the closet.  I am familiar with the book that the film is based on, so it’s troubling to see a trailer that markets the movie almost like a romantic comedy of the sorts.  So what is the big deal about having to hide the true intention of the movie?
