Movie of the Day – Penitentiary 3

Ah the Cannon Group, a film company that’s only purpose to churn out mid to low grade movies with bottom of the barrel scripts and basically turning shit into unadulterated gold.  They are the group responsible for movie like Bloodsport, Invasion USA, Breakin’ and Rockula.  During the heyday of the 80s, they paired with Golan Globus to release one of the single most amazing prison films ever made folks.  I am talking better than any other prison movie that has been released or will ever be released.  After the jump you will see why.

Movie of the Day – The Karate Kid

Try to be best
‘Cause you’re only a man
And a man’s gotta learn to take it

Try to believe
Though the going gets rough
That you gotta hang tough to make it

History repeats itself
Try and you’ll succeed

Never doubt that you’re the one
And you can have your dreams!

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

Fight ‘til the end
Cause your life will depend
On the strength that you have inside you

Ah you gotta be proud
starin’ out in the cloud
When the odds in the game defy you

Try your best to win them all
and one day time will tell
when you’re the one that’s standing there
you’ll reach the final bell!

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ho-how-ho-own

INSPIRING GUITAR SOLO

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you dow-ow-ow-ow-own

Fight ‘til you drop
never stop
can’t give up
Til you reach the top (FIGHT!)
you’re the best in town (FIGHT!)
Listen to that sound
A little bit of all you got
Can never bring you down

You’re the best!
Around!
Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down
You’re the Best!
Around!

repeat to fade, occasional background shouts of “Oh Ye-eah!”

Movie Review – Miami Connection

Get ready for the reunion tour of a lifetime.  Getting the band back together, the ass kicking, taekwondo orphans, mega rock band Dragon Sound, is being resurrected for a brand new audience for some of the best 80s music around.  Synth playing, mullet rocking, guitar shredding, pop infectious lyrics will get you jumping out of your seats, right before you are jump kicked back from the stage as Dragon Sound not only rocks the stage, but also rocks the criminal underworld and their “bad” cocaine in the film Miami Connection.

Movie of the Day – Gymkata

This is a classic.  Don’t let anyone ever tell you different about this movie.  Take it from a guy who clearly has seen too many movies in his lifetime, Gymkata is one of the finest martial art movies to have graced the screen in a long time.  A vehicle for gymnast Kurt Thomas, Gymkata is the deadly showcase of gymnastics inspired martial arts, which you can see displayed in such an awesome manner in the trailer.  It’s a movie that cult classic and terrible movie lovers have to see if they haven’t and if they did see it, then they know true peace and balance in their life.  Let’s vault over this shit pommel horse and check out the deadliest movie ever, Gymkata!

Movie of the Day – Revenge of the Ninja

You know, Enter the Ninja was so damn good that I decided to give you all a second helping of ninja with an unofficial sequel to Enter the Ninja.  If there is one thing Hollywood loves, it’s sequelizing the hell out of movies.  This is no exception to yesterday’s love fest as Revenge of the Ninja is about as balls out crazy as the first movie of the trilogy.  Yes I said trilogy as there is another movie called Ninja III: The Domination, but I just want to focus on the even crazier sequel Revenge of the Ninja cause there is more sword clanging, ninja star throwing, and ninja goodness that you won’t believe.  I would venture to say that despite the absence of an amazing death scene, Revenge of the Ninja is the equivalent The Dark Knight in terms of sequel success.  Yeah that’s right, this movie is the Dark Knight of the ninja franchise.

Movie of the Day – Mortal Kombat

MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!!

I remember when this movie came out and I had to go see it with my gamer friends.  I mean I was like 10 at the time and my parents drove us to go see a movie in which the premise is about Earth’s best fighters fighting ninja’s or whatever in a fight to the death.  I was excited that yet another fighting video game getting the big screen treatment, but after Street Fighter showed no one fighting in the street or whatever, this movie looked like it had all the dark marking of the video game I played for hours on end, but with none the fatalities.

Once that opening yell of MORTAL KOMBAT came over the speakers, I just buckled up and prepared to watch a video game come to life.

Movie of the Day – The Raid: Redemption

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!

If the trailer above doesn’t even entice you in the least, then stop reading and go watch some kid movies.  The Raid: Redemption is by far and away one of the best action films of the year period.  This is a film in which the hype matched the content of this movie and surpassed all my expectations going into this movie.  This is an action film fans wet dream, the sort of thing that makes the regular readers of Soldier of Fortune magazine blush when they witness a film that brings together fantastic gun play, acrobatic fight scenes and no holds barred, gritty, visceral attitude to a pure action film.  Grow a set and read on!

Movie of the Day – They Live

I am hear to chew bubblegum and talk about this movie…and I’m all out of bubble gum.  Never has a line seemed more perfect to open up a chain of ass kicking that ensues.  They Live is a cult classic…period.  Anyone you ask about this movie will remember 2 scenes from this movie that is essentially the crux of my post today.  But amongst the two iconic scenes in this movie, or the ones that standout to everyone, this is a subversive film that manages to blend politics, consumer consumption, greed and the brainwashing of the masses.  Plus loads of shooting, fighting and weird looking aliens.

Movie of the Day – 3 Ninjas

I don’t know what is happening here, but I just can’t seem to get away from the martial arts fair of the early 90s.  With TMNT II and Surf Ninjas being covered recently, I just want to revert back to my childhood.  Who could forget the antics of young, white suburban kids learning the ancient art of nut kicking from Egg Shen of Big Trouble in Little China.  I am certain that this movie did more for the strip mall dojo’s in getting kids excited about becoming little crotch kicking ninjas.  I bought into this movie, the notion that us little kids could take on a ninja syndicate and save the girl with out nut kicking prowess and tiny fists of fury.  It’s a movie that would spawn countless knock-offs and sequels that sadly pale in comparison to the one true heir of young Bruce Lee wannabes.
