Movie of the Day – Army of Darkness (special edition)

Folks, tonight is a special night.  While I have talked about Army of Darkness before on a previous post, I felt it was worth the time to just post about this again, not at length though.  No folks, I am posting this because this evening at the Alamo Drafthouse Mainstreet in Kansas City, I will be hosting a special screening of Army of Darkness in 35mm.  But that isn’t all, tonight it will be a MONDO EVENT, meaning that the lucky 116 people in attendance tonight will be getting a very exclusive Mondo poster of Army of Darkness, one that will surely be one of the most impressive releases this year for Mondo.  I am so utterly excited to be helping with this event and I have seen the poster early.  I will tell you all that is a thing of beauty and the people in attendance tonight are going to go nuts.

So what a perfect way to celebrate the new Evil Dead movie being released than a Mondo Event on Army of Darkness.  I will update this once I am able to post about the poster in its entirety.

Movie of the Day – Maniac Cop

This is probably why people don’t trust the police.  Well maybe not the sole reason, but then again this little kick ass slasher/horror movie certainly made some people paranoid about a renegade maniac cop on the loose, taking the law into his super strong hands.  It’s a perfect slasher film that is fun as hell to watch especially when you stars like Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins and the prolific Robert Z’Dar.

Movie of the Day – Bubba Ho-Tep

I never thought that I would live to see the day when both Elvis Presley and JFK, together in a movie and kicking ass against some ancient being.  This is truly the greatest time in our lives and I don’t care if this is just a work of fiction, I have just lost the ability to distinguish between reality and fiction. Bubba Ho-Tep is a movie that is pure B Grade goodness and full of things that will make it an instant cult classic.  I love a good absurd film, hell, this one is about a absurd as any movie can get, but when you take the premise of Elvis and JFK living in retirement homes and battle occult powers, you know you have a good time on your hands.  But through all the karate chopping, JFK conspiracies, and some mummy taking the souls of the elderly, you actually have a movie that aims to make a point about the elderly and their premium that we put on youth.   Yes, Bubba Ho-Tep is about the problems of old age and being remembered fondly for our life, instead of just being put away like they don’t matter anymore.  Deep shit man.
