Movie of the Day – Slugs

You know what, if you are dumb enough to get attacked and killed by slugs, then good riddance.  That is what we call “survival of the fittest” and Darwin has chosen you to be culled from society.  Slugs, I will at least give some applause for the fact that the filmmakers adapted the novel “slugs” into a rollicking monster movie where the aforementioned slugs slowly but surely kills with ridiculous efficiency.  I mean slugs as a killer creature is no more idiotic as rabbits being killers in Night of the Lepus.  While dumb in premise, the movie is fucking awesome!

A small town is plagued by a series of grisly deaths. The local health inspector investigates and discovers that the “killers” are actually a mutant variety of meat-eating garden slugs. It seems that the town had been built on top of a toxic waste dump, which turned the normally harmless slugs into ravenous carnivores. ~ Brian Gusse, Rovi

Alright, overlook the terrible acting, the dreary setting and everything else this movie and solely focus on the slugs.  These aren’t like super slugs or anything where they are giant, hyper aggressive or even slightly larger than their normal size.  They are just regular slugs, but with teeth now.  So either the towns people are idiots and capable of being wiped out by thousands of slugs or National Geographic isn’t telling us the whole story about slugs.

The movies true purpose is for the over the top death scenes.  You know because of their size they will be exploding out of peoples bodies like chestbursters, coming out from any opening.  Plus with their numbers, you will get the occasional scene where they are just swarming and devouring a person in the slowest, most agonizing death kills ever.  They are glorious to look at since it seems the filmmaker only wanted to do just showcase that, instead of trying to make a story about killer slugs and dumbass townies who can afford to buy salt and kill them.

Honestly, I don’t know why I am talking about this movie in more than one paragraph.  It’s a movie about slugs killing people.  Sometime they do it slowly, other times they just burst out of the persons body.  That’s about it.  Check it out on Netflix if you are wanting to catch some pretty inventive slug killing and also looking for a campy creature feature.
