Movie of the Day – Grandma’s Boy

I got to tell you all, between all the storms and tornado warnings and actual tornado’s, it’s been a crappy couple of days.  I need some cheering up and a stoner comedy is just the medicine I need.  Preferably medicinal in nature.  So I am very happy to have an under appreciated stoner comedy from the folks at Happy Madison production on hand to make me laugh, with or without help, not sure.

Grandma’s Boy is actually one of those little hidden gems you catch on Comedy Central some random weekend afternoon.  You probably don’t remember it so you sit down and just stop thinking and laugh your ass of.  The story follows the life of  underachieving video game tester and stoner Alex and his quest to essentially get his shit together.  He was kicked out of his rented house because his roommate spent the rent money on hookers, so he is left with moving in with his grandma and her roommates.  He works for a video company as a tester, which I have talked to many testers before and it is not a glamorous job, and generally has eccentric friends and adventures.  After falling for the new female developer, he has to compete for her affection from young prodigy game designer, J.P.

Not much of a plot, but damn did I laugh a lot during this movie.  I may be very easy to amusing, but so what, I love watching these stoner comedies.  There are a lot of funny one liners and Nick Swardson steals the light in every scene he is in.  I enjoyed seeing, what some would consider, secondary characters in other comedy movies getting their time to shine.  Also, about damn time that Allen Covert got a leading role, since he has been in most of the Adam Sandlers movies as a background character with small speaking roles.

Sadly, the movie is not available on Netflix Instant Stream, but I assure you that you can catch the movie on TV at some point.
