Movie of the Day – In The Loop

There is something about British movies that make genre films just one more notch better than their American counterparts. Now I know that sounds elitists and that it makes me seem like I sit around watching BBC television while sipping tea and saluting the Union Jack. While I do like BBC television and tea, I don’t own a Union Jack flag nor spell words like “neighbor” as “neighbour” in acknowledgement of Queens English.
It might just be their accents really. “Bollocks” and the way they say aluminum is interesting to me. Mix their accents into a comedy and add a shit ton of swearing and then you have a perfect movie. I am relatively amused by swearing, mainly because it is so fucking fun to through a shit or fuck or ass or whatever combination of words into a conversation. This might be why I enjoyed In The Loop so much.
Aside from the dark political comedy, the fact they lampoon the Iraq War scenario, and that it is also a brilliantly written script, it is filled to the brim with British people swearing. I found this to be great movie in 2010 and glad that it got some sort of recognition at the Oscars with a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination. The Adapted Screenplay nomination was because the movie is based off of British series called The Thick of It.
If you are in the mood for a smart, well written political comedy, In The Loop is for you. If you want a fucking funny movie with British people just going off the cuff with their swearing, this is definitely for you.
Enjoy!
